One killed in front-on crash with DUI suspect leaving traffic jam in Gardena – NBC Los Angeles

A DUI suspect who jumped away from a traffic stop, crashed into another car at a nearby intersection and killed his driver in a front-on crash Tuesday night in Gardena.

The crash was reported around noon. 22.30 near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Western Avenue. It occurred shortly after police stopped a ruthless driver.

The driver left the traffic stop at high speed as officers approached and then crashed into a sedan, police said. The sedan driver, identified as a man in his 60s, died on the spot.

Details of the victim’s identity were not immediately available.

A 19-year-old man – the driver of the other car – was arrested on suspicion of DUI, grand theft auto, evasion and killing of vehicles. He was admitted to the hospital, but details of his condition were not immediately available.
