A number of beloved DC titles move from DC Universe to HBO Max on January 1, inclusive Batman: The animated series and Batman Beyond.
Starting in 2021, series and movies like Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Justice League Dark: Apokolips Warand Batman: Bad Blood will be available to HBO Max subscribers. Other DC titles available on other streamers, including Superman: Doomsday and Superman: Tomorrow’s man, will also be available on HBO Max. The full list can be viewed on the WarnerMedia website.
The move is not so surprising given that DC previously announced that the DC Universe streaming service will be transformed into an exclusive comic book platform called DC Universe Infinite, beginning on January 21st. Series and movies still on the DC Universe will move to HBO Max later this month.
Until recently, many of the titles were available exclusively on the DC Universe, costing an additional $ 8 per month. For people who want to marathon a lot of their favorite DC series and movies over the holidays, it’s not ideal to have to maintain two subscriptions – one to DC Universe and another $ 15 monthly subscription to HBO Max. But as WarnerMedia puts extra emphasis on growing HBO Max, reading DC Universe titles for its latest streaming service will help strengthen and retain HBO Max subscribers.
2021 is an important year for WarnerMedia and HBO Max. The company is also releasing its films on HBO Max the same day they are out in theaters. Leaders hope the move will quickly accelerate the streamer’s subscriber base, which is not growing as fast as industry insiders would have wished. HBO Max will also host some great originals, including Zack Snyder’s Justice League clips and one Gossip girl restart among others. Having a number of popular “comfort series” like Batman: The animated series and Batman Beyond can encourage people to keep their HBO Max subscriptions active, even after watching the latest shows and movies.
(This is where I highly recommend HBO Max animated Harley Quinn series if you have not seen it yet. It’s the best TV show I’ve seen all year.)
Not to mention that if you’re like me, you do not have to quietly ask WarnerMedia to move Batman: The animated series over a period of time. Between The animated series, Batman Beyond, and WandaVision on Disney Plus, it’s a good time for streaming for both DC and Marvel fans.
